Children and Youth

The goal of the OUUC religious exploration program is to provide a safe, welcoming, loving environment for religious exploration for children and youth that is grounded in the UU principles, encourages spiritual and intellectual growth and empowers our children to live our common ideals and develop their individual faith.

We offer opportunities for the children and youth to question and learn, to worship, to engage in social action projects, and to participate in activities that promote friendships with peers and adults.

Activities are designed to match the child’s age, ability and interest; to understand our religious tradition which focuses on an individual search for meaning, and to ponder the questions that all religions address.  We draw materials from many sources, including the Unitarian Universalist Association.

The children and youth of the congregation are very important members of our multi-generational church community.  Most Sundays, they are present for the first 15 minutes of service before leaving for their activities.  Several times a year they participate in multi-generational Worship.

We engage the children in social action, appropriate to their age.  Past activities have been making dinner for Urban Hope (which feeds the homeless), collecting for Unicef, singing carols at a local nursing home, collecting materials for the Homeless Stand Down, and caring for the environment right here at church.

Our school aged-children learn, play and create together in one group.  We provide interactive childcare for our pre-schoolers in a well-equipped play room; and we offer a nursery for babies and toddlers.
