Program Goal

The goal of the OUUC religious education program is to provide a safe, welcoming, loving environment that through lifespan education, grounded in the UU principles, encourages spiritual and intellectual growth and empowers our students to live our common ideals and develop their individual faith.

2007-2008 Curriculum

Nursery
Childcare is available for infants and toddlers in the nursery.  Parents have the option of using childcare for the entire service or bringing their children to church with the older children.  Parents are also welcome to stay in the nursery & listen to the church service via radio.

.

Preschool
Basket activities, stories, music and art projects encourage children to honor themselves, their religious community, nature and cultures from around the world.

Primary and Upper Elementary (K-6)
Through activities and stories from Virginia Steel’s curriculum What is Religion for Others and for Us?, students will explore many of the ‘big’ religious questions about God, prayer, worship, and different ways of being religious.

We plan to offer OWL (Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education) for Jr. High (grades7-9) throughout the year and grades K-2 in the spring.

Junior High (grades 7-8)
Students will explore, formulate, and articulate their attitudes and beliefs through a variety of activities on topics such as people in the Bible, God, death, and Unitarian Universalism from How Can I Know What to Believe? by Charlene Brotman and Barbara Marshman.

Sr. High (grades 9-12)
Senior High students will use materials from This I Believe and other resources to develop their personal understanding of Unitarian Universalism. They will also meet monthly to plan and organize a spring trip to Boston.

Youth Group (grades 7-12)
Youth will meet monthly for social action projects, outside speaker presentations, discussions, outings, and other exciting youth empowerment events.
