TED Talk: Why We Make Bad Decisions

December 10, 2017 at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Harvard psychologist, Dan Gilbert believes that in our ardent, lifelong pursuit of happiness, most of us have the wrong map. In the same way that optical illusionsfooloureyes? andfooleveryone?seyesinthesame way? Gilbertarguesthat?ourbrainssystematicallymisjudge what will make us happy.? In the same way, people make consistent estimation errors and for that reason are doomed to make bad decisions. The premise of his current research, that our assumptions are often wrong, is supported with clinical research drawn from psychology and neuroscience. Our TED Talk will be led by OUUC member Kay Potetz.
