Sunday TED Talk: The Danger of a Single Story.

Sunday, August 2 at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Our lives and cultures are composed of many overlapping stories. Novelist Chimamanda Adichie tells the story of how she found her authentic cultural voice — and warns that if we hear only a single story, we risk a critical misunderstanding.

Ms. Adichie was born in Nigeria and at the age of 19, came to the United States to study. While growing up she was not used to being identified by the color of her skin which suddenly changed when she arrived in the US. As a black African in America, Adichie was suddenly confronted with what it meant to be a person of color in the US. Race as an idea became something that she had to navigate and learn. Join us for a discussion regarding the importance of “hearing” all sides of a challenge. Our facilitators will be Kay Potetz and Zellda Zelley.
